Read More	Obituary-Wilkinson John Wesley Wilkinson was born July 5, 1873, in Seward County, Nebr., and departed this life Dec. 13, 1926, at the age of 53 years, 5 months and 8 days. His boyhood days were spent in Phillips county, Kansas. About 40 years ago he came to western Kansas, where he has since resided. On May 4, 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Abbie Myers, of Stratton, Nebr. To this union ten children were born. This devoted union was severed March 6, 1920, when Mr. Wilkinson’s beloved companion was called to the Great Beyond. On Nov. 25, 1925, Mr. Wilkinson was united in marriage to Mrs. Daisy Emery of Stratton, a sister of his first wife, who is left to mourn the passing of a kind and devoted husband. Beside the sorrowing wife, there remains to mourn the loss of a true and loving father, nine children: Roy Abelbert, Grave Hazel, Gladys Elizabeth, Guy Wesley, Jesse Edward, John Virgil, Ruby Voilet, Opal Irene, and Hershel Leonard. One daughter Florence May, passed away July 4, 1922. Nine step-children, fourteen grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Madsen of Atwood, and Mrs. Margaret Sisk of Los Angeles, one half-brother, Harry Wilkinson, also survive him. As a husband and father Mr. Wilkinson was most devoted to his family. He loved his home and there his friends always found a hearty welcome. As a friend and neighbor Mr. Wilkinson was loyal and trustworthy, and his passing will leave an aching void in may hearts for he has won the respect of all who knew him. His honorable life exemplified the teaching of the Golden Rule. He was best known for his generosity and his ever willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. Where sickness or sorrow reigned, he was always found, ready to assist in any way he could. Mr. Wilkinson was a true optimist, always looking on the bright side of life. The dauntless courage and optimism manifested during the early pioneer days here were present throughout his life. He was deeply interested in all progressive movements for the good of the community, and in his death his community loses one of its best citizens. The good influence of his life has left an impression on the lives of many which will not soon be erased. The knowledge that his life has been a help to make his community better will be a consolation to the sorrowing family, who together with many other relatives and sorrowing friends mourn his untimely death. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Dec. 16 at 1 o’clock at the Stratton Methodist church conducted by Rev. R. Moore. The Stratton quartette rendered the selections “Jesus Lover of My Soul”, “Rock of Ages”, and “Abide With Me”. The immense throng and the beautiful floral tributes bespoke the high esteem in which he was held. Burial was in the family lot in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery, north of Stratton. “All is dark within our dwelling; Lonely are our hearts today. For the one We love so dearly, Has forever passed away.”
