John William "Bill" Brown, 70 of Rt 4, Abbeville Lake Secession, died Tuesday morning, May 28, 1968 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Laurens County, born August 6, 1897, son of Mrs. Annie Cobb Brown Ranger of Greenville and the late John Thomas Bown. Mr. Brown was veteran of World War I and a member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church. He was an employee of Duke Power Co. in Greenville and Anderson many years, and was for 21 years an operator of the Lake Secession Powerhouse. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eva Finley Brown; two sons, Louis Brown of Calhoun Falls and Tommy Brown of Rt. 3, Abbeville; a brother, George T. Brown of Anderson; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 30, 1968 at 11 a.m. at Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church by Rev. Lawton Daugherty, Rev. B. E. Petit and Rev. Dewey Murphy. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Abbeville. Pallbearers will be Sanford, Dean and Tommy New, Jimmy Finley, Donald Mundy and Ben Spear. The body is at Harris Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Wednesday, May 29, 1968 from 7 to 9 p.m. Source: The Press & Banner, pg 8, May 29, 1968.
