Description	:	Kansan, Saturday, Feb. 7, 1948 John William Hornbaker, a long time resident of this community died at the Bethel Deaconess hospital January 24, 1948. Mr. Hornbaker came with his parents from Indiana in 1879, to the homestead north of Newton when he was eleven years old. He had lived on the same farm sixty-nine years. In 1894 Mr. Hornbaker was united in marriage to Miss. Gertrude George, who died in 1907. Three children were born to this union. Mr. Hornbaker came with his parents from Indiana in 1879, to the homestead north of Newton when he was eleven years old. He had lived on the same farm sixty-nine years. In 1894 Mr. Hornbaker was united in marriage to Miss. Gertrude George, who died in 1907. Three children were born to this union. Cecil G. of Newton, Clifford of Wichita, and Helen who died when she was 16 years of age. Mr. Hornbaker was united in marriage to Mrs. Sylvia Houston,[Sylvia is buried at Walton, Ks.] March 21st, 1937. Surviving are his wife, two sons four grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. Grace Michael of Newton. Mrs. Gladys Greer of Newton and Wayne Andrews of California were taken into the home as small children, where they lived until they established homes of their own. Mr. Hornbaker's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Hornbaker, were charter members of the First Christian church of Newton, and he himself served as an officer in the church for 53 years. The funeral services were held from the First Christian church of Newton January 28th at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Logan Martin of Parkersburg, W. Va., a former pastor officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery Abby.
