Stluka, 71, died at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Sonny Stluka was born February 22, 1943 to John and Dorothy (Jedlicka) Stluka. He attended Geddes Community School, graduating in 1961. He began farming and ranching at the age of 13 on the Stluka family homestead after the death of his father and continued on with his son Steve. Sonny was drafted into military service in 1963 and was honorably discharged. On October 28, 1967, he married Patricia "Patty" McNamar in Armour, SD. They moved to the Stluka family farm north of Lake Andes where they lived their entire lives. He played town team baseball as a first basemen in his youth. He was selected as the Charles Mix County Outstanding Young Farmer. Sonny was proud of his Century Family Farm and his cattle herd. Sonny was a member of the Geddes American Legion. He served on the Lake Andes/Wagner Ambulance board and the Geddes Elevator board for 20 years. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed attending auction sales and wild game feeds. Sonny enjoyed hunting and fishing and any manner of outdoor activities. He loved playing with his grandchildren whom he teased relentlessly and attending their activities. He was an avid pitch player. He never finished a meal without a bowl of Schwans Ice Cream. He seldom went anywhere without his dog Shady. He died at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by his wife Patty, a granddaughter, Haley Jo, brother-in-law, Alan Blake, and his parents.
