BOBO A shock was occasioned in this community by the death on Monday forenoon of John W. Bobo a long-time resident of this city and familiarly known carpenter and builder. He had been sick for less than a week with grippe, running into pneumonia, and it had not come to general knowledge he was in the class of those critically, or even seriously ill. Grippe and pneumonia, however, work fast and sure some times, and they appear to have done so this time. Mr. Bobo was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Bobo, who came from Cedar county to this county in 1869, settling first at Iowa Center, but removing the next year to Nevada and settling on the property which has been the Bobo homestead for forty-five years. The father of the family died there in 1882 and the mother in 1904. John being through the intervening years the mainstay of his mother, and continuing his own home there after her death. The father and mother were married in Cedar county in 1856, and we infer that it is there that the deceased was born October 24, 1857. He died January 31, 1916, aged 58 years, 3 months and 7 days. Coming to Nevada as a boy just within his teens, he grew up here, followed his father in the carpenter's trade and developed much skill and capability and great reliability as a builder. A very large portion of the best houses of the city were built under his direction, and those who have had houses to build for themselves have been very glad to get him to take charge of the work. He was a builder who took pride in his work and who commanded the largest possible confidence. Mr. Bobo was married February 5, 1899 to Miss Jennie Smay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Smay of this city, and he leaves her and their two daughter, Helen and Mary, a son having died in infancy. He is also survived by his brothers George of Santa Maria, California, and Frank of this city. The funeral will be conducted from the Lutheran church Wednesday at ten-thirty o'clock by Rev. Schirck.
