| Description | : | John Nye was on the wagon train that arrived in the winter of 1849 in Oregon Territory. He married Cynthia Charity Switzer in Clackamas County, OR on August 14, 1851. Cynthia had arrived five years earlier. John Wirt Nye was employed by Lt. Ulyssis S. Grant, Quartermaster at Vancouver Barracks, to buy grain and other supplies for the troops stationed at the Vancouver Barracks, he also went in partnership with Lt.
