Description	:	Johnie R. Bohlen, age 82, of Waverly, died Friday, December 31, 2010, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly from complications of a stroke. Johnie was born on August 21, 1928, in Otley, Iowa the son of John and Faye (Pendroy) Bohlen. He attended country school in the Monroe, Iowa area to the 8th Grade. He then moved to the Waverly area and on January 20, 1950, was united in marriage to Veda Ragsdale at the Janesville United Methodist Church. Bohlen, age 82, of Waverly, died Friday, December 31, 2010, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly from complications of a stroke. Johnie was born on August 21, 1928, in Otley, Iowa the son of John and Faye (Pendroy) Bohlen. He attended country school in the Monroe, Iowa area to the 8th Grade. He then moved to the Waverly area and on January 20, 1950, was united in marriage to Veda Ragsdale at the Janesville United Methodist Church. After working at the Shell Rock Hatchery for a year the couple moved to Veda's family farm near Waverly where they raised their six children. They farmed there for nearly 40 years. They then moved to the Trav-o-Tel Motel in Waverly where they worked for five years and then moved to their present home. Johnie also worked at the Farmers Co-op in milk receiving in Fredericksburg for five years and at United Equipment in Waverly before retiring. Johnie's enjoyments included fishing and being with his family and friends. Johnie's memory is honored by his wife Veda of Waverly, six children, Jimmy (Linda) Bohlen of Shell Rock, Patty Franzen of Shell Rock, Susan Nenow of Waterloo, Janet Westendorf of Ankeny, John R. (Kristi) Bohlen of Janesville, and Bill Bohlen of Shell Rock, sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, a brother, Edwin (Beverly) Bohlen of Florida, and a sister, Norma Jean and the late Paul Franken of Plainfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Brian Westendorf and Whitney Bohlen.
