Read More	Birth and death dates and locations from California Death Index Records. ~~~ The Chico Enterprise, Chico, CA, Thursday, Feb 13, 1936, pg 5: "Mr. and Mrs. Summers Observe Anniversary --- Mr. and Mrs. Johnson Summers were honored by their family and friends today on the occasion of their 61st wedding anniversary, and the former's 83rd birthday. "A family dinner, one of the pleasant features of the day, was given at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McDaniels on First street, the dinner also being in honor of the 36th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. McDaniels. The entire family was present for the unusual affair. "Johnson Summers and Mary McDaniel exchanged their marriage vows in Macon, Missouri, February 13, 1873. Both came from pioneer families of Missouri. There were five brothers and one sister in the Summers family, five sisters and one brother in Mrs. Summers' family, all of whom have passed on except Mr. and Mrs. Summers, the former, 83 years young today, while Mrs. Summers is 81 years young. "Four children were born to the home, William Martin, deceased, the other three, Luther F. of Chico, Mrs. Florence Almstead of Colusa, and Mrs. Lola McDaniels of Chico, are with their parents today. "Coming to Chico from Missouri 36 years ago, Summers was superintendent of pruning and picking on the Bidwell rancho under the general foreman, Colonel Royce, and had many men under his supervision for many years. Having been interested in farming in his native state, he was a valuable man on the rancho. About six years ago he suffered a broken hip and has been retired since that time. However, he and his helpmeet [sic] of 61 years attend to all of the duties of keeping their home place on Stewart avenue with little assistance. "Mrs. Summers has found her chief interests in life in her home and family. Friends insist the Summers are the "old fashioned hospitable folk, generous and genial companions." Both are in good health and keeping step with the times with keen interest. "A beautiful lace cloth covered the dinner table today, a low bowl of golden jonquils forming the centerpiece. Many lovely gifts were received by the honor guests. Those present for the day with Mr. and Mrs. Summers were: Mr. and Mrs. Luther F. Summers of Chico, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McDaniel, Chico; Mrs. Florence Almstead, Colusa; her son, Jesse Trumbo, Colusa; the latter's son, Leland Trumbo and wife of Chico; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Martin and baby, Bobby Jean, of Quincy.
