Read More	Obituary provided by 47133098 on 6/24/2012 The Missoulian 3/2/1999 Tuesday Page 13 Jola "Mabel" Miller MISSOULA -- As the sun lulled the stars to sleep, oue precious grandmother ascended the stairway to heaven. On Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, the Lord called home Jola "Mabel" Miller. She was born March 9, 1904, to Ole and Metta Hagen, the baby in a family of nine children. Mabel had a passion for life and enjoyed growing up on a prairie in the Red River Valley, watching the steam engines thrash the grain, listening to the stories of the harvest crew, and conversing fluently in both Norwegian and English. In 1918 she moved to Sanders, MT., with her parents, sister Clara and brother Ole to homestead north of the Yellowstone River. In 1933 she married Allen Miller and farmed in Bloomfield throughout the depression. During this time her children Mabel and Ole were born. In 1938 Allen and Mabel moved to their farm on Sarpy Creek near Hysham. It was in this house her son Rudi was born with the assistance of her lifelong friend Tillie Cramer. In 1951 Mabel moved her family to Missoula. She was a mighty ship that weathered many storms. She worked many jobs to support her family, but her favorite was working in greenhouses. She enjoyed riding horses, milking cows and tending a garden. Mabel was an independent women who faced each day with a happy heart, appreciating others' inner worth. She treasured her erly friendship with Jeanette Rankin. She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren. She lit a candle in their hearts, igniting a magic spark in which the flame will burn forever. Thank you Grandma, for your vibrant presence, for putting joy in our souls, for guiding us, caring and loving us, for making us feel special and teaching us the meaning of faith, hope and love. We will miss you dearly, especially the twikle in yoyr eyes. We will think of you every time we see a starlit sky, smell a flower, hear the wind blow through the trees or the rain dropping from the heavens, and we will know to look skyward because you taught us that's where the rainbow is found. Mabel is survived by her children Rudi and Judy Miller and Ole Miller of Missoula, and Mabel Miller of Hysham; grandchildren Tammy and Pat Brook, Scott and Brenda Miller, Rick and Jodie Miller, Lee and Jim Morris, Ann and Bob Wilson, Juanita and Paul McDanold, Karen Shull, and Marvin, Melvin and Allen Marry; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-granchild; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at Garden City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hysham. Interment will be in the Memorial Vale Cemetery, in Hysham, MT.
