Duey, Nelson, Nebraska: From the Osceola (Iowa) Sentinel of December 10, we get the following notice of the death of Jonas A. Linder. Mrs. Ollie Aikin of Nelson, is a daughter of the deceased.Jonas A. Linder, 77, passed away early Sunday morning at his home west of Leslie within a few miles from the place where he was born. Mr. Linder was a member of one of the oldest and sturdiest pioneer families of Clarke county (sic).Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2 o'clock from the Lacelle Baptist church (sic) with Rev. R.C. McCallon, pastor of the local church, in charge. A large crowd was in attendance. Burial was in the Lacelle cemetery.Six of the grandsons acted as pall bearers: Harold Linder, Gerald Wadsworth, Arden Dutton, Loren and Darrel Shepherd and Harold Boswell. Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Reish contributed the music.Jonas A. Linder, son of Jacob M. and Jane P. Linder, was born in Clarke county (sic), near Lacelle, August 2, 1854, and died December 6, 1931, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 4 days.His entire life was spent in Clarke county (sic) on a farm near Lacelle. Being born in a log cabin in the early days when this country was practically a vast prairie with only few inhabitants. When a young man he enjoyed going miles to singing school and church. He had always taken an active part in community affairs.He was united in marriage to Sarah A. Johnson December 10, 1874. To this union two children were born Bertha A. Aikin of Nelson, Nebraska; and Charles J. of Cumberland, Wisconsin. His wife departed this life in 1878.On September 16, 1880, he married Sarah I. McCall. To this union were born nine children of whom five are left to mourn their loss as follows: Mrs. Ethel Wadsworth, Mrs. Rose Dutton, Mrs. Mable Shepherd, Carl and Lois. The latter at home has been a constant companion to her father since the death of her mother sixteen years ago. Besides the children mentioned above he leaves twenty grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; also three sisters, Mrs. Sarah E. Hedrick of Martensdale, iowa; Mrs. Mary Johnson, Osceola, Iowa; and Mrs. Mittie Parker of Des Moines, Iowa; and a number of other relatives.When a young man he united with the Baptist church (sic) at Lacelle. He always enjoyed serving the Lord. He was a devoted husband and a kind and loving father.His greatest desire was for the success of his family, giving them the best education and opportunities available. His Christian character was displayed by willingness to lend a helping hand.Everything was done that loving hands could do for his comfort. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
