Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon this week at the Dalesburg Lutheran church and burial beside his wife at the Lutheran cemetery. Jonas Ledene, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Johnson Ledene, was born February 23, 1870 in Jettendal Parish, Helsingland, Sweden, the oldest of three sons who came with their parents to Vermillion in 1883, where an uncle John Ledene, had a tailor shop at the time. Mrs. Ledene, the mother of the family, died May 8, 1884, while the family was domiciled on the second floor of the Carlin building located on the corner of Main and Forest Avenue. In 1886, the father and three sons came up to Dalesburg and for some time lived in the old pioneer dugout of Olof E. Westburg which he occupied during early homesteading days. Some time later the father bought the south 80-acre tract of the Stenberg homestead, and there the family established themselves. Jonas Ledene was married May 27, 1899, to Inga Johnson and two daughters were born to them. In later years the family lived on the farm directly north of the Lutheran church, but after the wife's death eventually moved to Vermillion, where the daughters attended school, and where the oldest, Adeline, kept house for her father and who survive, as does another daughter, Bernice, Mrs. Lloyd Bristow, of Mission, S. Dak., besides three grandchildren. Surviving are also two brothers, John Ledene and Perry Ledene, of Scandia, Alberta, Canada. Jon J. Ledene, their father, died January 9, 1926 at Kenmare, N.
