He came to Iowa in 1846 and was married to Mary A. Stansberry January 3, 1856. To this union were born six children, all of whom are living except one son who died in infancy. The living children are: R. W. of Athol, Kansas; F. W. of Wapello County, Iowa; J. A. of Davis County, Iowa; Mrs. L. A. Peebler who lives near the home, and J. F. who is still at home with his widowed mother. Funeral services at the home near Batavia. He was a member of Co. G, 13th Iowa Infantry. He was in the service one year. He seldom went away from home except when he met with Crocker's Brigade of which he was a member.
