When a young girl she came with her parents to Jefferson County, Iowa where she spent the remainder of her life with the exception of one year which was spent in Wapello County. When a young girl she came with her parents to Jefferson County, Iowa where she spent the remainder of her life with the exception of one year which was spent in Wapello County. In the year 1856 she was married to Jonathan McElderry. To this union was born six children: 5 boys and 1 girl as follows: R. W. McElderry of Athol, Kans.; John W. McElderry of Batavia, Ia.; J. A. McElderry of Bloomfield, Iowa; Mrs. Lou Peebler, Batavia, Ia.; Wm. Edward who passed away at the age of 11 months; Fred McElderry, Batavia, Ia. She also leaves to mourn her departure two brothers, James Stansberry, Bloomfield, Iowa; Fletcher Stansberry, Los Angeles, Calif. She also leaves 16 grandchildren, 13 great grand children, 1 great great grandchild. She was raised a Methodist and was sprinkled when a child. She was always willing and ready to help others in times of sickness and death and considered it a privilege to do so. She departed this life Sept. 5th, 1923, at the old home place where she has lived about 65 years, 3 miles northwest of Libertyville, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the home in Des Moines township, Saturday, Sept. 8, 1923 at 1:00 o'clock conducted by Rev. Wm. Mitchell of the Presbyterian Church of Libertyville, Iowa. Interment being made in the Brethren Cemetery.
