Read More	The Belle Plaine Union, Wednesday, December 30th, 1915 page 1 Following, an illness, of two days, Mr. Joseph Formanek passed away at the family home in Belle Plaine last Thursday morning at 7 o'clock. Mr. Formanek was in his sixty-eighth year and had lived a retired life since coming to this country seven years ago from Bohemia. The funeral was held from the home Sunday afternoon and was in charge of Mr. Joseph Hajek of Cedar Rapids, a public speaker. The pall bearers were his three sons, Charles, Joseph, and Antone Formanek and three son in laws, Frank Kratoska, Frank Novak, and John Muha. The body was laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. Joseph Formanek was a native of Bohemia, where he was born on February 20th, 1848. He grew to manhood there and was married to Miss Anna Wilhelm in September 1874. To them were born six children, three daughters and three sons, all of whom with the mother, survive and mourn the loss of a devoted father and husband. One by one, the children as they grew to manhood and womanhood emigrated to this country. First the son, Charles came to America, the son Joseph. A daughter, Mrs. Frank Novak and her sister Emma were next to leave the old country and they were followed by Antone and he in turn by Mr. and Mrs. John Muha, the latter a daughter. With all the children gone, the old folks in their loneliness decided they would come to America so they might be with their children to whom their lives have been devoted. This was seven years ago. In these seven years they have lived a quiet life in this city where they could be near their children and where they have made many friends. Mr. Formanek was a hard-working, upright, man and was respected by those to whom he was known. To his wife and children, he was a kind and devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed in the home and among his friends.
