Joe Siwinski, son of Mary Panek and Stanley Siwinski, was born in Pozen Province, Poland, February 7, 1858 and passed away at Ashton, Nebraska, February 13, 1933, at the advanced age of 75 years and 6 days. He came to America with his mother when he was but 16 years of age, in the year 1884. They came directly to Momence, Illinois, where Mr. Siwinski stayed and his mother came to Sherman County to live with her daughter Mrs. Stanley Dymek, Sr. He remained in Momence for a while and then went to the Dakota Territory, then to Sherman County, near Loup City, homesteaded near Arcadia for three years. He was married to Pelagia Goc at Pozen, Nebraska, August 30, 1887. They then moved to Howard County and later to a farm in Sherman County, 1893, where they remained until 1920 when they moved to Ashton in retirement. Mr. Siwinski had one sister and one brother who preceded him in death in the old country; two sisters, Mrs. Stanley Dymek, Sr. and Mrs. B. Lukasczewski preceded him in death in this country. He was the last of his family to pass to the Great Beyond. Three of his children preceded him in death also, one girl and two boys died in infancy. Besides his wife he leaves ten children: Anna Blazey, Ashton; Josephine Dzingle, Argyle, Minnesota; Johanna Bonczynski, Ashton; Ignac, Ashton; Mary Jasnoc, Ashton; Monica Smedra, Ashton; Stanley Siwinski, Ashton; Theresa Syntek, Elba; Frank Siwinski, Ashton, and Clarence Siwinski, Ashton. Also 32 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and many relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the St. Francis Catholic church, Thursday morning at ten o'clock, with Rev. Father Jarzemski in charge. Interment was made in the St. Francis Cemeery. The pallbearers were members of the St. Izidore Society, for which he was a former president and founder.
