He died Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one. Read More	Joseph Dietz November 2, 1923-February 3, 2005 Joseph Dietz was born November 2, 1923, the son of Frank and Regina Gaestel Dietz. He died Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one. Joseph was born in Charter Oak, Iowa and received his education at St. Boniface Catholic School and Charter Oak High School. In 1942, Joseph was drafted and entered the United States Army, serving in the European Theater. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Charter Oak and began driving truck for Vernon Leeper and later, worked as a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Charter Oak. In 1949, he moved to Pasadena, California where he was employed as a mechanic at the California Institute of Technology. In 1980, Joseph retired and returned to Iowa. In his spare time, Joseph enjoyed working on his cars, playing pool, and bowling. Additionally, he was an avid baseball fan who enjoyed remembering player statistics and league facts. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John in infancy and Eugene; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Martha; and one brother-in-law, Arnold Plahn. He is survived by one daughter, Jolyn; two brothers, Charles of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Paul and his wife, Stella of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Veronica Plahn of Carroll, Iowa and Connie Kesterson and her husband, Floyd of Charter Oak; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 7, 2005 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Fr. Richard Ball served as Celebrant of the Mass with interment at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Colleen Henderson provided the organ music for soloist, Jim Jurgens singing "On Eagle's Wings", "Prayer of St. Francis" and "Amazing Grace". Honorary pallbearers were Steven Kesterson, Charles Kesterson and Mark Kesterson. Serving as pallbearers were Ronald Kesterson, Robert Kesterson, Donald Dietz, Jim Nielan, Dean Staley and Ken Lally. Military Honors were the Charter Oak American Legion Homer Hall Post 66. A Rosary was held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Community Building, served by the St. Boniface Altar Society.
