Lero, 72, Route 1, Defiance, who was completing another of several terms as Noble Township trustee and who was an auctioneer, died at 5:15 p.m. Sunday in Defiance City Hospital. He had been a patient there since December 4. Mr. Lero had also been an employee of the Defiance County Highway Department for 15 years prior to his retirement four years ago. Mr. Lero was born in Defiance on August 31, 1889, a son of Michael and Mary (Grieser) Lero. His first wife, the former Mae Brown, died in 1926. On Feb. 14, 1933, he was married to Mrs. Gladys Hiler who survives. He also leaves four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Steffel of Route 1, Defiance, Mrs. Virgial (Helen) Hornish of Defiance, Mrs. Ralph W. (Anna Margaret) Fillinger of Route 4, Defiance and Miss Rosemary Lero of Defiance; a stepson, Clifford Hiler of Route 1, Defiance; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four brothers, Edward of Antwerp, William of Route 1, Defiance and John and Henry of Defiance; two sisters, Mrs. Orville (Olive) Shindler of Sarasota, Florida and Mrs. Alvin (Katherine) Garl of Greenville, Ohio. The rosary will be recited tonight at 8 o'clock in the Mansfield-Mast funeral home by the Holy Name Society of St. John's Catholic Church of which he was a member. Funeral services will be in the church at 9 a.m. Wednesday, conducted by the pastor, Msgr. John J. Vogel. The burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Defiance Crescent News - Jan. 2, 1962
