Rohner passed away Sunday morning at 7 o'clock after being confined to his home for the last several weeks with illness. He was recovering from an attack of pneumonia and was apparently feeling better than for several weeks. Dec 2, 1926 - Carroll Times - J. A. Rohner passed away Sunday morning at 7 o'clock after being confined to his home for the last several weeks with illness. He was recovering from an attack of pneumonia and was apparently feeling better than for several weeks. Thursday and again Saturday he had been able to leave his bed and come downstairs to eat dinner with the family. During his illness his sons had been sitting up with him at nights and during Saturday night Edward remained with him. Mrs. Rohner came to his room several times during the night to see how he was resting and at 2:30 o'clock when she last talked to him he was apparently feeling as well as could be expected. As morning dawned Edward retired to his room and Mrs. Rohner before leaving to attend church at 7:30 o'clock went to her husband's room to see if there was anything she could do for him before she left. When she spoke to him and he did not answer, she looked more closely and found that he had died, apparently but a few moments before. His death had been easy as though he might have been claimed when he slept. Mr. Rohner was born in Buffalo, N.Y., September 5, 1850, and came to Carroll in 1875. He opened a photograph studio in Carroll at that time but his studio was swept away by flames in the big fire of Carroll in 1879. Two years later in October, 1881, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kniest of Mount Carmel. Before again opening a studio in this city he and his wife spent a year in New Mexico. Returning to Carroll he went into business and until he retired a few years ago, leaving the business in the hands of his son, Lambert Rohner, he was the leading photographer in this city. His love of art made him highly successful in his work and he built up a splendid clientele. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Dr. Frank Rohner, Iowa City; Lambert Rohner, Carroll; Mrs. W.B. Murray, Minneapolis; Dr. Joe Rohner, Chicago; Miss Rose Rohner, Carroll; Philip and Edward Rohner, Carroll. He is also survived by three brothers: John Rohner, of Idaho Springs, Colo.; Edward Rohner of Texas, and Arnold Rohner of Columbus, O. His son, Dr. Joe Rohuer, of Chicago, who was on a year's tour of the old world, had just left Milan, Italy, and was returning home. He was reached by cablegram and arrived in the city Tuesday. Mr. Rohner's sudden death came as a severe shock to the family, who thought he was steadily improving. He was a devout member of the St. Joseph church of this city and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was held in high esteem by the residents of the city which he helped make the thriving town it is today. Funeral services were held at the St. Joseph church Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock and burial was made in the Catholic cemetery.
