Description	:	Joseph "Aron" Janson Aron, as he was called, (the family pronounced it Oh-wren) was probably given this as it was his paternal grandfather's name. He was called 'Ben' by his siblings during his youth. According to his brother Roger, this is how he came to be called Ben; When the Janson family lived in Montana (near Fairview), there was a neighbor boy by the name of Ben Doyle. Apparently he rode his bicycle all the time. The Janson family, being quite poor, did not have any bicycles. They called that neighbor boy 'BenDoyleCycle.' Aron tried to make a bicycle and his brother Carl began calling him ' BenDoyleCycle' which later became abbreviated to 'Ben.' He was the 6th child of Uncle John and Aunt Annie, born on 5 Oct 1917 in Bellingham. Aron filed registered for the Draft in Oct 1940 and was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1942. His length of service was for the duration of the war but as of today I still have not found his discharge papers. At the time he was drafted he had been living in Hillyard and was working as an automobile "serviceman." In 1947, he is listed as a carman for Great Northern Railroad. This appears to be his long term career, working as a carman at the Hillyard station. His home however, was on various streets over the next 20 years; Wabash, Market and W. Sprague. Recently, I recieved a box of items that belonged to Uncle Freddy. It it was this photo of Aron probably early in his military service. He died on 22 August 1979 in Spokane at the age of 68 years.
