He married Dorcas Smith in Tisbury in 1769 and soon after they moved to Readfield (then part of Winthrop), Maine. They lived in Readfield, at the north end of Lake Maranacook, 1770 until about 1783 at which time they moved on to Moscow, Maine where they were the first settlers.
