On June 15, 1917, this tall young man of 23, with blue eyes and brown hair, walked into an office to register for the World War I draft. At the time, he was single, and working for the summer as a farm laborer for Howard Heary in Chapin Precinct, near Winfield, Nebraska. Joseph was living in Winfield. Read More	Joseph Bede Beveridge was born June 30, 1893, in Denver, Colorado. On June 15, 1917, this tall young man of 23, with blue eyes and brown hair, walked into an office to register for the World War I draft. At the time, he was single, and working for the summer as a farm laborer for Howard Heary in Chapin Precinct, near Winfield, Nebraska. Joseph was living in Winfield. After the farm work was over for the season, he planned to return to 2310 Webster, Omaha, Nebraska. His actual enlistment date for WWI was December 14, 1917, and he was released June 8, 1919. Upon his return to Omaha, he was employed by the US Government, to work with railway mail coming in at the Burlington rail station. The 1940 US Census lists: Joseph B. Beveridge, 46, supervisor,railway mail Helen Beveridge, 44, wife James Beveridge, 17, son Joseph Beveridge, 15, son Joseph F. Frohner, 62, brother-in-law, clerk RR Even though he served in WWI, when WWII broke out, he registered with the draft in 1942. He was older (49) but was still tall (5'10"), weighing 150 lbs, but his hair was now gray.
