Dolce-Scheef Mortuary of Spalding, NE is in charge of the arrangements. Joseph “Joe” Bernard Walsh was born on August 20, 1947 at Spalding, NE, the son of James and Sally (Feik) Walsh. Joe was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding and attended school at Spalding Academy, graduating in 1965. Joe was a hard worker all his life. He started working summers at the age of 10 on the Ray Bernt farm and worked for many of the area farmers throughout his school years. Following his graduation, Joe worked for Peter Kewitt with his dad building Interstate 80 across Nebraska. Joe enlisted in the United States Army, and on September 21, 1966, was inducted at Fort Bliss, TX. During his time in the Army, Joe taught mechanics and served in Vietnam before being honorably discharged on September 19, 1969, at Fort Hood, TX. After his discharge, Joe returned to Spalding and began working at Spalding Implement. In 1973 he began his 37 year trucking career. Joe was united in marriage to Jeanette Sorensen on July 5, 1975 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley, NE. To this union two children were born: Justin and Jilliane. They lived in Spalding until 1987 when they moved to Grand Island, NE and in 1988, moved to Lincoln, NE where Joe began driving for Consolidated Freight. He began his own trucking company in 1995, driving over the road and locally. In 2010, after many miles, Joe hung up the keys to enjoy retirement. Joe was always very busy and enjoyed many hobbies such as the S.Y.A. tractor club, restoring antique John Deere tractors, and participating in tractor drives and parades. Joe belonged to the Blessed Sacrament Church in Lincoln, where he was an active volunteer and also participated in Light of the World, as well as the Knights of Columbus, becoming a Knight in the 4th degree. Joe was also a member of the James Kessler American Legion Post #299 of Spalding, NE, where he was a former commander, as well as a former member of the Spalding Volunteer Fire Department. Even though he was a busy man, Joe’s family came first. He always made time to spend with his family. He saw his children and grandchildren as his greatest blessings. Joe told everyone that the best job he ever had was being a “Papa”. Surviving Joe is his wife: Jeanette of Lincoln, NE; two children: Justin Walsh of Ravenna, NE, and Jilliane (Ryan) Allemann of Wayne, NE; six grandchildren: Autumn and Joseph Walsh, and Evan, Lucas, Marie, and Molly Allemann; 10 brothers and sisters: Tony Walsh of Duncan, NE; Dave Walsh of Shelton, NE; Annette (Ken) Partridge of Grand Island, NE; Maureen (Duane) Seamann of Spalding, NE; Joan Bauer of Spalding, NE; Dan Walsh of Spalding, NE; Rita Walsh of Lincoln, NE; Janet (Ray) Krick of Spalding, NE; Ken (Cindy) Walsh of Townsend, MT; Sharon (Joe) Seamann of Spalding, NE; aunts and uncle: Frank and Theresa Berger of Spalding, NE, and Anna Mae Feik of Hastings, NE; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his: parents; grandson: Christopher Walsh; two sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Sorensen, and Karin Walsh; and brother-in-law: Dave Bauer.
