He was raised and attended school in Chanute. On September 24, 1949, he married Fidela Quirarte. She survives at their home. Joseph was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, American Legion, VFW Post Commander, D.A.V., Elks, and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include: Wife: Fidela Godinez of the home Son: James E. Godinez of Chanute, KS Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and two sisters. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 9:15 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute, KS. Interment will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery. Legion Riders and Chanute Honor Guard will be in charge of military honors. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. The family suggests memorials to be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N.
