They took him to the house and sent for Drs. Livingston & Williamson and when the doctors saw him they pronounced his case hopeless. It will never be known just how the accident happened as the boy was unconscious when found and remained so; but it is supposed by the marks on the ground that the horse was running and fell down with and onto the boy. The accident happened about seven o'clock in the morning and death came to relieve the boy about 4 p.m. the funeral was held at the Buck Creek church at 2 o'clock p.m. on Monday. There was a large crowd in attendance. Mr. Moulton's folks have the sympathy of the entire community in this sad affair. Ref: Hopkinton Leader, Hopkinton, IA, 8 Sep. 1898 -- A sad accident occurred last Sunday at the home of James Moulton in Uniontown. His oldest boy Joe had taken the cattle out to the pasture, riding a horse and upon returning it is supposed that he was thrown from the horse. The horse came to the barn without the boy and upon investigation the boy was found with a fractured skull. He lived unconscious, until four o'clock Sunday afternoon. The funeral service was held in the Buck Creek church and the remains laid in the Buck Creek cemetery. Rev. Staebler conducted the services. The boy was fourteen years of age and a grandson of J. P. Cramer and wife of this place.
