He graduated from High School in Preston and then served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On December 27, 1947 he was joined in marriage to Wilma Schaub. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Jill. Wilma died on October 21, 1966 and on January 20, 1968, Joe married Ruth (Paul) Kueter in Sherrill, Iowa. Besides doing some farm work, Joe Naegle worked as a railroad telegrapher and train dispatcher for the Milwaukee and Soo Lines for forty years, retiring in 1986. Joe Naegle was a member of the Bellevue American Legion Reveille Post #273 where he had been a Past Commander. He also was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he held several offices, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. After a well-fought fight with cancer, Joe Naegle was called to his eternal rest on Wednesday morning, December 24, 1997. Preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Wilma, his stepdaughter Judy Kilburg, his step-daughter-in-law Jo M. Kueter and his granddaughter Tammy Kilburg, Joe Naegle is survived by his wife, Ruth, his daughter, Jill (and Gary) Davis, two step-sons Steve Kueter and Bill (and Debra) Kueter, a step-son-in-law Darwin Kilburg, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his sister Thoreen (and Ervin) Horsman, extended family and friends.
