He had worked in the field all day Thursday, although he was not feeling well and went to bed early without eating supper. Later his son Frank, who is employed by Will Podhajsky, called, and the father arose from his bed to visit with him. As the son was about to leave the house, Mr. Chizek suddenly dropped to the floor of the kitchen. A doctor was hastily summoned, but death had been almost instantaneous. Mr. Chizek was 48 years old. He was born in this county March 17, 1880 and was a son of Frank and Rosa Chizek, who came to Tama fifty or more years ago and are yet living, the father being around 86 years of age. The son Joseph was reared to manhood on a farm, and in 1906 he was married in Toledo by Justice E. M. Hufford to Tena Vinhalek, who had come to this country from Bohemia about a year before. Mrs. Chizek died April 6, 1917. She was a sister of Mrs. Albert Hlas, of Tama, and since her death the only daughter, Millie, has made her home with Mrs. Hlas. There are three surviving sons—Frank, Adolph, and Emil. The oldest child is 20; the youngest 11 years old. Most of Mr. Chizek’s life was spent in Crystal township, and he died on the same farm where he started farming after his marriage. Besides his four children, he is survived by his aged parents, one brother, Frank Jr., south¬east of Garwin, and three sisters— Mrs. Maggie Votjech, wife of Anton Votjech, southwest of Traer; Mrs. Mary Vondracek, wife of Frank Vondracek, northeast of Toledo: and Mrs. Anna Moravec, wife of Anton Moravec, southwest of Traer. Funeral services were held at the home in Crystal township at 9 o’clock and at St. Vaclav church in Carroll township at 10 o'clock Saturday morning. Rev. Thomas Vopatek, of Clutier, in charge. A large crowd attended. Burial was in St. Vaclav cemetery beside the wife.
