He was born August 22, 1927, in Crothersville, IN, the son of the late John & I. Blanche (Salmon) Silence. On June 4, 1950, he married Luanne Scott who preceded him in death on December 12, 1999. He was born August 22, 1927, in Crothersville, IN, the son of the late John & I. Blanche (Salmon) Silence. On June 4, 1950, he married Luanne Scott who preceded him in death on December 12, 1999. He then married E. Jane Wilson Ford on October 28, 2006, and she survives. Joe was a 1945 graduate of Prairie High School, and was a lifelong farmer. He served with the United States Army Air Corps from 1945-1947 during WWII. Joe worked for Chrysler Corp, retiring in 1993 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and a former member of the Eagles Lodge. Joe & Luanne owned the Bouquet Barn Flower Shop in Tipton for 30 years. Along with his wife Jane, Joe is survived by his children, Jody (Denny) Smith, Tipton, Brod Silence, Kokomo, and Shelly (Rusty) McWhirt, Frankfort; step-children, Cindy (John) Heuermann, Russiaville, and Denny Ford, Grants Pass, Oregon; son-in-law, Kenny Howerton, Tipton; grandchildren, Erika Landrum, Abbie (Nate Stout) Smith, Clay (Beth) Silence, Ross (Kayla) McWhirt, Morgan McWhirt, Todd (Chelsea) Howerton, Caleb Howerton, Ben Sewell, and Kiley Heuermann; great-grandchildren, Gracie Heaton, Lillie Heaton, Wilson Heaton, Bennett Silence, Matilda Stout, Jack Stout, Kennedy Sewell, Liam, Drake, and Preston Howerton, and great-granddaughter Berklee McWhirt due in January; along with several nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Luanne; daughter, Stacey Howerton; and siblings, Hollis Silence, Ralph Silence, Maxine Huff, Alice Dunham, and MaryLynne Gano. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 31, 2018, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville, with Pastor Steve Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow in Kempton Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2-5 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the Fairview Baptist Church.
