Peter and Paul's---Burial in Catholic Cemetery. J. C. Schwaller died suddenly at his home Sunday morning at 8:15 o'clock with an attack of heart trouble. He had not been feeling well for a week, but from early childhood had not been in robust health and often had days when he suffered pain. His condition previous to his death was no worse than on many former occasions. Sunday morning he joined the family at breakfast but was taken fatally ill a short time afterwards and died before a physician could be summoned. Mr. Schwaller was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schwaller. He was born in Clayton county, Ia., in 1856, and came with the family to Carrroll county 48 years ago. For the last 19 yhears he had made his residence in this city. Mr. Schwaller was born a strong, healthy child, but at the age of two years took sick with what the doctors of that time called the gout. The disease put its marks on his body and although the best medical advice of the time was sought, the doctors were unable to strengthen and build up his frail frame, which had become weakened with disease. Even as a child he was unusally bright and as the years passed he showed marked mechanical inclinations. He received an excellant education and for many years taught in the schools of the county, teaching by day and repairing watches by night. Possessed with an unusual ambition, no day was long enough for him to accomplish the things he had in mind. At the time of his death he still conducted his watch repair shop at his home. The Schwaller home is equipped with many conveniences of Mr. Schwaller's invention. When not busy at his jeweler's bench he sought to lessen the work of the household and the many intricate pieces of machinery for carrying on the work of the house, stand as a constant reminder of his skill. J. C. Scwaller was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul's church of this city and a member of the Holy Name society. He was a very religious man. His physical handicap did not embitter him and he was never known to complain of his condition or the pain he often suffered. The father of Mr. Schwaller died eight years ago. The mother died in July, 1922, and he is survived by two brothers and one sister. August Schwaller of Fordyce, Neb.; Henry Schwaller of Odebolt; and Mrs. Joe Achatz, of this city. One brother, Will Schwaller, of Roselle, died 18 years ago. Requiem mass funeral services were held at the Sts. Peter and Paul's church Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery.
