Description	:	Joseph C. "Joe" Pedersen, 79, of Thornton Colo., formerly from St. Paul, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at North Suburban Hospital in Thornton. Joe was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Wolbach to Henry and Viola (Townsend) Pedersen. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Larry Johnson of Thornton, Colo., and Diane and Jack Britton of Monument, Colo.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Piper Pedersen of Thornton; grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Kristen Pedersen, Kathryn Britton, Zachary Britton and Anne Pedersen. Joe was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Wolbach to Henry and Viola (Townsend) Pedersen. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Larry Johnson of Thornton, Colo., and Diane and Jack Britton of Monument, Colo.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Piper Pedersen of Thornton; grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Kristen Pedersen, Kathryn Britton, Zachary Britton and Anne Pedersen. Joe moved to St. Paul as a child and went to school there. Joe's earliest memory was getting chased by his brother Don's dog. He would tear his pants as they ran to the windmill and his mother would have to sew them up over and over again. After getting a spanking in first grade, Joe was not fond of school. He did however enjoy football and track in school, but loved shop. This led him to become a welder in 1957 after serving in the Army from 1953 to 1955. Joe ran the general store in Nysted from 1963 to 1965 after moving from California. He moved to Colorado in 1966 to continue welding for McCoy Company and then Wagner Equipment. Joe retired in 1994. Joe was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119, both of St. Paul. He enjoyed history, country music, fishing and being with his family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Grace; his sisters, Janice and Judith; and his brothers, Dick, Darwyn, and Don. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Military honors at graveside will be presented by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul. Published in The Grand Island Independent on November 8, 2011
