Cross died at his home in this city, Saturday afternoon, after a short illness with pneumonia, brought on by a severe cold contracted while attending the funeral of Charles Bush. Mr. Cross was born in Green county, Wis., November 22, 1844, where he grew to manhood. He answered the call of his county and enlisted in a Wisconsin regiment, when 18 years of age, serving until the close of the war, receiving an honorable discharge. Cross died at his home in this city, Saturday afternoon, after a short illness with pneumonia, brought on by a severe cold contracted while attending the funeral of Charles Bush. Mr. Cross was born in Green county, Wis., November 22, 1844, where he grew to manhood. He answered the call of his county and enlisted in a Wisconsin regiment, when 18 years of age, serving until the close of the war, receiving an honorable discharge. He returned to Monroe, Wis. and was married to Emma Sanderlin, Nov. 16, 1874. To them were born eleven children, six boys and five girls, all of whom are living and with the wife, mourn his death. Mr. and Mrs. Cross came to Knox county in June 1893 and lived on a farm east of town for several years. A few years ago, they purchased a home in town, where they have resided. Mr. Cross was a man, who commanded the respect of all, who knew him. He was a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand and a kind husband and father. He was a member of the Methodist church. The funeral was held Tuesday morning from the Methodist church by Rev. R.J. McKenzie. The remains were taken to Plainview for burial beside his mother and father. Several of the old soldiers and members of the WRC and numerous friends accompanied the funeral party.
