He was born at Walnut on Dec. 4, 1924 to Ben Bernard and Carrie (Schoenhofer) Bradshaw. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy, spending three years on the submarine USS Chub. "Gene" Bradshaw*, 77, of St. Joseph, Mo., formerly of Manhattan, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001 at a St. Joseph health care center. He was born at Walnut on Dec. 4, 1924 to Ben Bernard and Carrie (Schoenhofer) Bradshaw. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy, spending three years on the submarine USS Chub. In 1946, he moved to Manhattan, where he lived for 21 years before moving to St. Joseph. He worked as a construction superintendent for 42 years and retired from the W. M. Grace Construction Company in 1988. Mr. Bradshaw was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at St. Joseph. On July 5, 1965, he married Irene M. Talarico in Kansas. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, Walter J. Brandshaw of Topeka and David E. Bradshaw of St. Joseph; one step-son, Terry Talarico of Shawnee; one step-daughter, Sandra Weidmaier, of St. Joseph; one sister, Rita Bradshaw of St. Paul; one brother, Ben Bradshaw of Walnut; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Pete, Leland, and Ernest Bradshaw; four sisters, Adeline Heck, Irene Bradshaw, Ruth Bradshaw and Cleo Kavanaugh. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the St. Francis Catholic Church at St. Paul with Fr. Daniel Vacca officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery at Pittsburg. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home at Parsons.
