He had been in failing health for the last seven years. His passing is deeply mourned by his family, relatives and friends of whom there are many. Joseph Duda was born April 3, 1882, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Duda, in Kelnlky, Czechoslovakia. He came to America at the age of 24 years, on July 3,1906, settling in New York, New York, where he worked in a piano factory for three years. He came to Chelsea in 1909. On January 25, 1910 he was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Benda, who passed away in 1911. To this union one child was born Mrs. Charles (Bessie) Klenk. On June 17, 1912 he was united in marriage to Miss Frances Janosik and lived in Belle Plaine for a year, working at the carpenter trade. They moved to a farm near New Hampton, Iowa, in the fall of 1913, which was their home until the spring of 1923 at which time the family moved to a farm near Brooklyn, Iowa, living there one year. They then moved to a farm in the Chelsea vicinity remaining there for two years and then moved to the vicinity of Elberon, where they resided for 23 years, moving back to Chelsea last spring. Surviving are his wife, Frances, four daughters and two sons Mrs. Charles (Bessie) Klenk, Chelsea; Mrs. Clarence (Lily) Dvorak, LaPorte City; Edward Duda, Chelsea and Charles and Alice at home. There are 13 grandchildren, three brothers and a sister, Frank Duda, New York, New York; Thomas Duda, of Belle Plaine; John Duda and Mrs. Joseph Marusak in Czechoslovakia. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Mr. Duda was a lover of hunting and was always ready to help in time of need and was a member of the Z.C.B.J. lodge. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, September 21, at 2:00 at the Hrabak funeral home in Chelsea, with the Rev. J. W. Kasa officiating. Casket bearers were: Milo Posekany, Charles Weaver, Joseph Kriva, Sr., James H. Behounek, Joseph Prusha, Joesph Kratoska. Singers were Mrs. Anton Kroulik and Mrs. Wm. A. Stanek, accompanied by Mrs. Charles Veit. The songs were: "No Night There," and "Asleep in Jesus," In Czech, and "In the Garden," at the cemetery. Interment was in the National cemetery near Vining.
