Varin of this city came Wednesday afternoon as a shock to his friends and relatives. Mr. Varin had laid down for a rest and when his wife went to call him at 1:30 to get lunch and go to work, she could not rouse him. He had passed away in his sleep it is thot about three hours previous from a heart attack. Deceased was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Varin Sr. at Houghton, Mich. on June 14, 1871 and at the time of his passing was 64 years, two months and 17 days of age. On November 27, 1895 he was united in marriage at Center Township to Miss Elizabeth Graf. They have made David City their home since that time rearing their family, only one preceeding their father in passing in infancy. Those remaining to grieve the passing of their father are, Mrs. Lewis Griss of Grand Island; Mrs. Harve Crocker and Mrs. Lester Long of this city; Gerald of St. Joseph, Mo.; Al of Custer, S.D.; Josephine Varin of North Platte and Paul, Rose, Joan and Maurice of this city. Mrs. Varin remains to grieve her husbands death. There are four sisters and six brothers also left, being Mrs. Jim Kirby of Garrison, Mrs. Mike Powers of Holyoke, Colo.; and Mrs. Ed Paul of this city all being here for their brothers funeral. Others unable to be here were Mrs. Chas. Kavanaugh of South Dakota; Lawrence, Dick, Lou, Chas. and Eugene all living in California and Ed residing in Idaho. Al Varin was the only one of the children who was not here for the funeral. Mr. Varin has been a member of the St. Mary’s church in this city for many years. He has for the past five years been employed by the city as fireman at the light plant. Funeral services were conducted from the St. Mary’s church by Father Murphy at 9:30 Friday morning with requiem mass being sung by the St. Mary’s Junior choir. The pall bearers were Wm. Delaney, Jake Smith, Mike Ronker, Frank Kirby, Pete Smith and Pete Vanderheiden. Burial took place in the St. Mary’s cemetery in this city. __ CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness at the death of our beloved husband and father.
