'''''''' The Peoples Banner (David City, Nebr.), August 26, 1937, p. 4, col. 5 DEATH OF MRS. VARIN Elizabeth Graf was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Graf in Iowa City on August 28, 1864 [sic] and passed away at the age of 62 years, 11 months and 23 days. She came to Butler County when a girl with her parents and was united in marriage to Joseph F. Varin in the Center church. They resided in David City most of their married life. Mrs. Varin was ill the past six weeks and for the last two weeks had been bedfast, at her home. She was the mother of elven children, one child passed away in infancy. Those surviving their mother are Mrs. Lew Criss of Grand Island; Mrs. Harve Crocker of David City; Al Varin of Custer, South Dakota; Gerald Varin of Chicago; Mrs. Lester Long of David City; Miss Josephine Varin of North Platte; Mrs. Clarence Claypool now in Beatrice, Paul, Joan and Maurice who reside at home. All the children were at their mothers bedside at the last except Mrs. Claypool who was unable to be present. Mr. Varin departed this life in September 1935. There are left besides the children four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Kate Knott, Wm. Graf and Mrs. Albert Peters of David City, Mrs. Alois Rubenthaler of Gothenburg and Mrs. Theodore Rutten of Kearney. Mrs. Varin was a devoted mother to her children and was seldom away from her family. She was a devoted member of the St. Mary’s church and of the Altar Society. Funeral services were conducted from the St. Mary’s church in this city at 9:3, Tuesday, August 24th with Father Murphy in charge assisted by Father Tupy. Burial was in the Catholic cemetary. Pall bearers were Jake Smith, Frank Divis, Leo Graf, Mike Danaher, Wm. Delaney and B. H. Eiting. Those here from away to attend the services were Mr. and Mrs. Alois Rubenthaler and son, Bernard and daughter, Mrs. Lindberg and her daughter of Gothenburg. Mr. and Mrs. Theo Rutten, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Richter and daughter of Kearney; Mr. Lucky Dedmore and daughter, Lodema of North Platte. The family group had dinner after the services at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Knott. ___ September 2, 1937, p. 8, col. 6 Card of Thanks We wish in this manner to thank our many friends and neighbors for their very kind assistance at the time of the illness and death of our dear mother, also we wish to thank those who sent the beautiful floral offerings and for the spiritual bouquets.
