Description	:	Massachusetts F2 US Navy WW1 Joseph F. Peters - Chatham - Joseph F. Peters, 70, of 389 Main Street, died Wednesday, at his home. Born in Chatham, son of the late Simeon B. and Jennie (Brooks) Peter, he was educated in Chatham schools and after completion worked for the Chatham Coast Guard before joining the Navy at 17 with his brother Charles during World War I.He was assigned aboard a destroyer out of Norfolk, Va., which saw duty throughtout the European Theatre and at one time was so badly bombed the vessel had to return to the Philadelphia Navel Shipyard for... Read More	Massachusetts F2 US Navy WW1 Joseph F. Peters - Chatham - Joseph F. Peters, 70, of 389 Main Street, died Wednesday, at his home. Born in Chatham, son of the late Simeon B. and Jennie (Brooks) Peter, he was educated in Chatham schools and after completion worked for the Chatham Coast Guard before joining the Navy at 17 with his brother Charles during World War I.He was assigned aboard a destroyer out of Norfolk, Va., which saw duty throughtout the European Theatre and at one time was so badly bombed the vessel had to return to the Philadelphia Navel Shipyard for repairs.After discharge from the service he returned to Chatham and was a self-employed commercial fisherman. In 1947 he was the first to offer charter fishing boats in the Chatham area, combining it with his fishing enterprises.He was a member of Chatham Methodist Church and American Legion Post 253. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jessie (Johnson) Peters; five children, Mrs. Anne Marocchini of Wethersfield, Conn., Theodore Eldredge of the U.S. Merchant Marine, Mrs. Jennie Fulcher of West Yarmouth, Mrs. Gladys Marocchini of Newington, Conn., Mrs. Adria Tubman of New Bedford, 23 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev. William E. Syssell Jr., at Nickerson Funeral Home, Chatham. Interment will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Chatham. additional information and parent links courtesy of kelly fulcher
