OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, October 23, 1951 JOSEPH FRANKLIN EDWARDS Joseph Franklin Edwards, son of William and Elizabeth McDowell Edwards, was born in Lucas county, Iowa, Oct. 21, 1867, and departed this life at the home of his daughter Nina, in Des Moines, Oct. 9, 1951, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 18 days. He was united in marriage to Cynthia Pierschbacher January 9, 1890, who passed away June 4, 1942. They made their home on a farm in English township where they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Jan. 9, 1940. To this union four daughters and eight sons were born, nine of whom survive their father. They are Mrs. Sylvia Bingham and Roy of Chariton; Ora of Williamson; Elmer of Columbia; Nina, Cleo and Robert of Des Moines; Blanche Gray of Woodward and Donald of Racine, Wis. Harry died in infancy, William Dec. 7, 1922, and Mrs. Ferne Foote April 20, of this year. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Belle Wright of Chariton, one brother Robert of Russell, 40 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He confessed his Saviour and was baptized January 17, 1915, and united with the Belinda Christian church, where he spent much of his time in helping to make the church home a good place to worship. Mr. Edwards was an industrious man. He taught his children to be honest and up-right in all their dealings. He will be greatly missed by his family and a host of friends. Services under the direction of the Miley funeral home were held from the Belinda Christian church Thursday, Oct. 11. The Rev. Mr. Hile, former pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was made in the Zion cemetery. Music was furnished by Mrs. John Beebout, Mrs. Hallie Beebout, Walker Morehead and Pearl Shults. Pallbearers were Lloyd Bingham, Arthur Edwards, Raymond Edwards, Ernest Edwards, Donald Gray and Glenn Edwards.
