Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14 at Tennant Funeral Home, with vigil and rosary to follow. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, May 15 at 11 a.. at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Iliff with Father James Baird officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Gerk was born May 9, 1927, to Jake Gerk and Margaret (Sommer) Gerk at his parent's home in Iliff.He graduated from Iliff High School in 1945. On June 5, 1948, he married Corinne DeSoto. Mr. Gerk worked as a self- employed auto mechanic in Iliff from 1948. He was a lifetime member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, the Sterling Elks Lodge #1336, a charter member of the Iliff Uons Club, served on the first board of the Iliff Community Center, and was a long-time mayor of Iliff.Joe loved spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, gardening and reading. He also liked making wine and was an avid Colorado Rockies fan. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Corinne Gerk of Iliff; sons Ken Gerk and wife Peggy,Chas Gerk and wife Debbie,David (Dewey) Gerk, all of Greeley, Jim Gerk and wife Mary, of Fort Morgan, Geoff Gerk and wife Peggy, of Howard, and Richard Gerk and wife Dena, of Haxtun; daughter Peggy Lueck and husband Jim; of Iliff; brothers Lawrence Gerk; Stan Gerk, Herman Gerk and Bill Gerk; sisters Rosemary Rizzolo, Marge Schmidt, Dorothy Fehringer, Regina Sande, Agnes Gerk, Rita Fehringer and Loretta Gerk; grandchildren Beth Gerk, Kelly Bush, Jason Bush, Kendra Gerk, Nicholas Lueck, Alison Lueck, Paul Gerk, Adam Gerk, Matthew Gerk, Tony Gerk, Andy Gerk, Ashley Gerk, Tyler Gerk, Sam Gerk, Mitch Gerk, Jake Gerk, Megan Gerk and Joey Gerk; and one great- grandchild, Mackenzie Bush. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Margaret Gerk. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Catherine Building Fund or Hospice of the Plains.
