This well known veteran is survived by the widow, formerly Mrs. Mamie Wafflar, who is his second wife and several children; Jason, who resides southeast of Tipton in the New Lancaster community, Mrs. Arthur Phares of North Main street, Tipton: Hige and Marshall Grose of Gary: Emsley Grose of Ohio: Mrs. Della Richards of Colorado and Mrs. Pearl Galbreath of Fredonia, Kansas. Lee Grose, a son died at the family home on South East street three years ago. Three children died in infancy. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Joe Tatman, of Tipton and a number of grandchildren. One brother, George Grose resides in Scircleville. Joseph Grose was born in Henry county June 27, 1845, his parents being Ahijah and Elizabeth (Curry) Grose, pioneers of that county. When a young man his family removed to Clinton county and in 1863 he was married to Miss Selinda Welshons, who was the mother of all his children. The first wife died in 1915 and in 1916 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mamie Wafflar, widow of Fred Wafflar. There are no children of the second marriage. For the past six years, Mr. Grose has resided in Tipton, having resided on a farm all of his life until coming to Tipton. He was a member of the GAR Post of Tipton and a member of the Presbyterian church and a man who was strictly upright in all his dealing and who was loved and respected by all. The deceased went through the civil war participating in many engagements, but escaped unwounded and his health up to the time of the fatal stroke had been exceptionally good. He had many times expressed the wish that when his time came he could go without a long period of illness and his wish was granted. No funeral arrangements have been made at this time, word being awaited from the daughters in Kansas and Colorado, but it is thought the service will be some time Monday, probably in the afternoon.
