Description	:	Mrs. Martha L.(Mayme)Gross, one of Tipton's oldest citizens, died at 6:05 a.m. today in the Tipton county hospital at the age of,97. Mrs. Gross had lived with a daughter, Mrs. Marie Tatman, of 428 East Jefferson street, for a number of years. Final rites for the Tipton pioneer settler will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Young's Funeral home, with Rev. Ray J. Walther officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Gross, believed to be the oldest continuous resident of Tipton, spent 96 of her 97 years in this community. She was born in the early day settlement known as "Old Berlin", in Clinton county September 28, 1855, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Rumsey) Paul. The family moved to Tipton in March, 1856. Her father, Thomas Paul, was the town marshal when Tipton was incorporated in 1873. On August 8, 1873, Mrs. Gross married Fred Wafflar and resided at 229 South West street. Mr. Wafflar died in 1912. Her second husband, Joseph Gross, died in 1925. Also, five of her children preceded her in death. Mrs.Gross was a member of the Presbyterian church, Captain Paul Circle No. 59, and the Ladies of the G.A.R. Survivors included her daughter, Marie Tatman; one granddaughter, Mrs. William Ross, Jr., 202 Kentucky avenue, and two great-grandchildren.
