Parish records of Niederwildgrub, Silesia, Austria show Josef was united in marriage to Maria Jahn, daughter of Franz and Johanna Niesner Jahn on July 26, 1880. Witnesses were listed as Alois Jahn, farmer at Nieder Wildgrub and Alois Hadwiger weaver at Nieder Wildgrub. At the time of the marriage, the parish clergymen entered an entry "legitimizing" in the church records the earlier birth of their daughter, Anna Maria Hadwiger. The more detailed, including last residence, ship passenger list recorded in the Hamburg archives, shows Josef and Maria Hadwiger including their children Anna, Josef and Marie, all of "Wildgrub", traveling in a group of families including in-laws "Jahn's" and another family of the village, the Langer's. After their arrival in the port of New York, the family traveled through the Polk country, Nebraska area (lifetime home of Maria Jahn Hadwiger parents and home to 2 of Joseph and Mary's kids, Anna Marie and Gustav) prior to the final migration and homesteading in Buffalo County, Nebraska. Joseph's homestead entry #17670, shows he filed in Grand Island, Polk County, Nebraska office. Self testimony by Joseph in his homestead proof, reflects a home built on his farming purpose parcel in 1885. He remained a farmer throughout his life. To date, no 1885 Nebraska state census enumeration has been found by these researchers for the Joseph and Maria Jahn Hadwiger family, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist. Same census would assist descendants confirm parentage of a large extended family created from the marriage of widowers Joseph and Theresia "Tracy/Trasie" Kirschner Matzner later in 1889. Unsourced research posted to Findagrave.com suggests Joseph's first wife Maria Jahn Hadwiger died and was buried on the nearby Adolph Englisch/English homestead. Adolph Englisch is another confirmed Niederwildgrub church parish register old country related family member from "Wildgrub". Others connected to Joseph Hadwiger from the old country include his homestead witnesses and baptismal Godparents of his children. By 1894, Joseph reminisced in his homestead testimony of July 1894, that his homestead family consisted of "a wife and twelve children", which can be supported by census and marriage records of the mixed family children from the two widowers prior marriages and offspring from the 1889 union of Joe and Tracy. Other unknown source reminisces: - Maria died about 1886 and was buried on farmland north of Pleasanton. - Some passed down history suggests Maria died in, or after childbirth, and was buried with her baby. He lived alone in his own home, with daughters Mary and Rosa looking in on him daily. …Joseph died at his home in Pleasanton on May 8, 1949 at the age of 92 years, 4 months and two days. …Living children at death included: "Mrs. Anna Sidel of Julesburg, Colo.; Joseph of Riverdale, Nebr.; Gus of Peets, Colo.; Rudolph of Alda; Mrs. Rose Sheckler, Adolph, and John of Pleasanton."
