Obituary Joseph Heldenmaier was born near Peoria, Illinois, April 11, 1859, and passed away at the home in Atlanta on April 26, 1939, at the age of 80 years 15 days. Mr. Heldenmaier was among the earliest settlers in this part of the country, coming as a young man to Harlan country in 1887 where he took a homestead on which he lived for 20 years. On January 7, 1890, he was married to Sophia Poehlman Miller who preceded him in death December 16, 1938. He is survived by two brothers, John of Clarksville, Iowa, Michael of Peoria, Illinois; three sisters, Henrietta Ohlamn and Rachel Heldenmaier of Peoria, Anna C. Koenigstein, Eminence, Kentucky; two stepsons, Fred and Henry Miller, Atlanta; a number of stepgrandchildren; other relatives, and a host of friends. In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Heldenmaier moved to Atlanta where he has since resided. He was a member of the church at Mascot but after coming to Atlanta he joined the Methodist here. He was a regular attendant and a faithful member of the church. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with a prayer at the home by Rev. H.A. James of Franklin, a former pastor and from the Atlanta M.E. church conduced by the pastor, Rev. Bruce Eshelman. Music was furnished by a male quartet, consisting of R.L. Cobb, G.L. Henline, Ed Pickering and Vern Huff, and Mrs. Eshelman at the piano. They sang "In the Garden,' "Wonderful Peace," "When I Come to the End of the Road." The pallbearers were Ralph Salyers, Charles Oberquell. A.B. Henline, H.E. Borden, Paul Peterson and F.E. Hammon. The floral tributes were beautiful. Burial was made in the Oxford cemetery. Michael Heldenmaier, a half brother, and a nephew, Iaman Ohlman of Peoria, Illinois, came for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Meader and daughter, Marjorie, of Cambridge and many from the surrounding towns and country attended the services.
