For many years, or since 1908, Mr. Gau was, until his health declined, devoted to the business of those men who impressed the observer with the thought that he really liked to be busy or profitably occupied. Always pleasant, Mr. Gau nevertheless had little time for idling. He was an active member of the Elks' lodge and was a member of the town council for a period of six years. He was deeply interested in the welfare of his church. Mr. Gau was born at Pierz, Minn., September 22, 1879. He came to Canada in 1906, and was associated with P. Burns and Co. in Edmonton for one year. He went to Daysland and established a meat market business and in 1908 entered partnership with C. J. Duggan in Camrose, an alliance that remained mutually agreeable throughout the years, and was terminated only when the health of the deceased failed early in April this year. In 1910 Mr. Gau married Mrs. Sauer (nee Johanna Heisler) of Heisler, Alberta, in Spring Lake. They came to Camrose to resided. He leaves his wife and six children, three boys and three girls: Leander of Camrose, Mrs. Theo. Koppmann of Provost, Marie, nurse-in-training at the Misericordia hospital, Edmonton, and Charlie, Catherine and Joseph. The three grand-children are Ronald Koppmann, and Daniel and Frederick Gau. Two children predeceased him, Mildred in December, 1914, and Gilbert in 1923. Six brothers and two sisters reside in Minnesota, and one sister in Alberta, Mrs. Wm. Campion of Lloydminster. The illness from which Mr. Gau suffered necessitated an operation on April 22nd last and from that time with the exception of three weeks spent in the University hospital and one or two other intervals he had been a patient in St. Mary's hospital here. Funeral service was held Tuesday morning at ten o'clock at St. Francis Xavier church. Business places were closed for a half-hour in deference to the memory of the deceased.
