Description	:	His father was Daniel L. Christner and his mother's name was Mattie. In 1886, an 18 year old Joseph and his family moved from Iowa to Hayes County, Nebraska. After Joe and Minnie's marriage in 1892, the young couple homesteaded their property while living in a sod house. In 1900 Joseph was a farmer and started to preach as a local preacher in the school houses in neighboring communities, He was 32 years old. After returning to Nebraska, he held tent meetings as an evangelist. By the 1910 Census he was a minister of the gospel in Wauneta, Chase, Nebraska. When William Phillip Pegg died in 1915 he was the minister officiating at the funeral. He served the Methodist Church in Nebraska at Stockville, Grant, Farnham, Wauneta, Gretna, Palisade, Crab Orchard, Hopewell, Courtland, and Mt Zion. He retired from the ministry in 1934 and they moved to live in Wauneta, Nebraska.
