Description	:	Joseph J. Volbert, 37, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Volbert, 1061 Hughes Av, died at 7:45 p. m. Tuesday at St. Rita's hospital from injuries suffered two hours before, when he was crushed under a heavy log in the yards of the D. T. & J. railroad at Unionopolis. Volbert resided two and one-half miles northwest of Unionopolis. Volbert had been engaged in felling trees for the Napoleon Hoop Co. and was unloading the logs from a wagon when the accident occurred. Tuesday at St. Rita's hospital from injuries suffered two hours before, when he was crushed under a heavy log in the yards of the D. T. & J. railroad at Unionopolis. Volbert resided two and one-half miles northwest of Unionopolis. Volbert had been engaged in felling trees for the Napoleon Hoop Co. and was unloading the logs from a wagon when the accident occurred. It is believed that one of the skids slipped, causing the large pieces of timber to fall, pinning Volbert beneath. His screams attracted nearby workmen who extricated him and called Cantwell's ambulance. Volbert's chest was crushed and his right leg so badly mangled that the foot was partially severed, was rushed to St Rita's hospital but died two hours later from internal injuries. The deceased was born in Auglaize Co on March 18, 1888, and had spent most of his life in this vicinity. He was a World War veteran having spent 18 months with the First Infantry of the First division. He received five medals for heroic services overseas. He was a member of St. John's Catholic church. Surviving are his parents, Mr. & Mrs. A.C. Volbert, his widow, four brothers, Clarence, Leroy, Oliver and Cary, three sisters, Mrs. Rose Shaw, Mrs. Leona Harner, and Miss Violet Volber, all of Lima. Funeral services will be held Saturday in St. John's Catholic church but the time has not been set. Interment will be in Gethsemane.
