Description	:	Joseph J. Novacek, 99 of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2011 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Joseph James Novacek, son of James and Mary (Brozek) Novacek, was born on June 9, 2011 on a farm southwest of Primrose, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Primrose and attended elementary school at a country school near Primrose. Joseph and Anastasia were married on January 3, 1940 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Following their marriage they moved to Illinois for 2 years where Joe worked as a farmhand, then to Clarks where they rented a farm for a year before moving to a farm west of Cedar Rapids in 1944. Joe loved farming and also raised cattle, hogs and horses. He served on the Rural Fire Board for 51 years. Hard work was his favorite hobby. He was also the oldest member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Joe and Anastasia both loved dancing and being with their grandchildren. On Wednesday, January 12, 2011 Anastasia passed away at the Boone County Health Center in Albion at 94 years of age. Joseph also passed away the same day, January 12, 2011 at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion at 99 years of age. Surviving Joseph and Anastasia are 4 daughters: Marian Epps and husband Earl of Myrtle Creek, OR, Margie Polenz of Bellevue, NE, Bobbie Lanza and husband Jerry of San Leandro, CA, Patty Bird and husband Chris of Bennington, NE; 3 sons: Jim Novacek of Cedar Rapids and Ed Novacek and wife Joan, all of Cedar Rapids, Mike Novacek and wife Joan of Primrose, NE; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson. Joseph is survived by 2 sisters Emma Holys of Albion and Helen Smith of Golden, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and 4 sisters: Barbara, Caroline, Agnes and Mary and one son-in-law Dick Polenz. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association and the American Diabetes Association.
