Joseph Kirby, Perrysville's postmaster and leading citizen, died Monday at 1 o'clock p.m. For several years he has felt the heavy burden of his days, and for a year has used a rolling chair. He was a native-born citizen first seeing the light of day near his modest Perrysville home, on the 23 of December, 1833, and had entered upon his 78th year. March 6, 1856, he was united in marriage with Susan Lawyer. His venerable partner survives the death of her devoted husband, together with six children; Mrs. Belle Shambaugh, Miss Edith, Otis H., Mrs. Josephine Galbraith, Thomas and Ralph. Five children preceded him in death. There are also four grandchildren; Anna Shambaugh, Grace and Helen Kirby and Joseph Galbraith. Thursday afternoon funeral services were held at the home and at the church, conducted by Rev. G. W. Grubbs of the New Rumley U. B. Church. Interment was made in the family lot in the U. B. Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Tope and Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Devore were present from Carrollton. Joseph Kirby deserved well of his family for he was affectionately devoted to their interests; he deserved well of his church for he was a faithful member for 57 years; he deserved well of his country, for as a member of the 57th Ohio, he bared his bosom in its defence; he deserved well of humanity for every heart throb was in kindly sympathy for all human kind.
