Read More	Clay Center Times, July 19th, 1934 Joseph Levi Hoover's Obit Joseph Levi Hoover, a resident of Clay Center for approximately fifty-seven years, died very suddenly Sunday evening, July 15, at 11:10 o'clock, following a stroke of paralysis, Mr. Hoover was a man of strong build and had always been in good health. He never complained. He got up as usual Sunday morning and attended to some duties around the home before he went down to h is store and later procured a Kansas City newspaper. When he returned to the home at 624 Court Street, his sister Miss Mary Hoover, had just returned from church services. Wen she mentioned preparing the dinner Levi said he did not care for anything to eat, but kept drinking water. He read his paper but complained of having a headache. Miss Hoover, realizing her brother was not himself called a doctor who came at once. Mr. Hoover's temperature went up to 108 degrees, death resulting from a cerebral hemorrhage. Joseph Levi Hoover, son of Mr. an Mrs. Daniel Hoover, was born September 8, 1858, in Dubuque County, Iowa, and came to Clay Center Kansas, with his parents, and other members of the family about fifty-seven years ago. He continued to reside in this city the remainder of his life. As a young man he learned the carpenter trade and helped in the building of a number of homes in this vicinity. Later he devoted his attention to the art of cabinet making. For a short time he operated a restaurant, but for a number of yers the Hoover paint, paper and cabinet shop has been one of the business establishments on Fifth street. Levi Hoover was a familiar figure in Clay Center. he was of emphatic temperament having very decided opinions of things. A great reader, he was well posted on all the affairs of the county, city, state and national affairs, He was a staunch Democrat and for many years took an active part in their party program. He adhered to the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Peter and St. Paul's church. The Hoover family were good citizens. Miss Mary Hoover, who survives her brother is the last of a family of eight children. The father died in 1897, and the mother passed away in 1916. Besides his sister, Mr. Hoover leaves two cousins in this city, Charles and Anthony Hoover, also ten nieces and nephews residing elsewhere. Final rites were held at St. Peter and St. Paul's church Tuesday morning. Father Lenaghan conducted high mass at eight o'clock and delivered an impressive address. Appropriate music was furnished by the choir. The body bearers were Phiul Engert, John Wernette, oh n Esslinger, will Hess, Frand and Tony Schiltz. Burial was made in St. Peter and Paul's cemetery. Many friends came to pay their respects.
