He was born Oct. 20, 1913, the son of John and Julia (Conn) Eyre, in Superior. He graduated from Superior High School in 1931. He earned his bachelor of science degree from Hastings College in 1935 with a major in chemistry. A member of the College "H" Club, he was a track star in long distance running. He set records in the mile and two mile that stood for many years. He participated in the Drake Relays in 1933 and 1935. He became a research assistant at the DuPont Company, living in Wilmington, Delaware, 1935-37. On Sept. 5, 1937, he married Edna Alyce Burmood of Wood River. The couple met in college. They made their first home in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he was a research assistant on the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Fellowship at Mellon Institute 1937-38. He was transferred to Milwaukee in 138 by Pittsburg Industries where he was plant manager of the Carona Division Dry Color Plant. Until retirement in 1974. He then became manager of Wayne Chemical until a second retirement in 1979. He was a member of the American Chemical Association. He was an Eagle Scout and worked in scouting in many capacities for a number of years. He was an active member of North Shore Presbyterian Church of Shorewood for more than 60 years. He was and (sic) ordained elder and clerk of the session. Always an athlete he was a tennis player and avid golfer. His hobbies included stamp collecting, photography, and travel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John; sisters Rheva Pobertson, Florence Koontz and Eunice Petersen. Survivors include his wife, Edna; a son, John, two grandsons; one step-grandson; one brother, Oswin Eyre, Ashland, Ky.; two sisters, Delmar Barber, Omaha and Francis Whitney, Superior. Services were Saturday at North Shore Presbyterian Church, Shorewood, Wisc. Interment was in Wood River Cemetery. Superior Express (Superior, NE), Thursday, June 10, 1999
