Description : Joseph was the son of Samuel Wilson and Martha Martin. The family relocated to Fremont Co, Iowa from Ohio by 1856.

Samuel and Martha had six children. Their oldest son, James, served with the Southern Border Brigade. Joseph and his brother Josiah served with Co A 4th IA Cavalry. Josiah died from "camp fever" in Arkansas and is buried in Missouri.
