Deters was born, April 8, 1913 in Farmer, South Dakota. He grew up in farmer where he received his education. He moved to Hartford, SD in the early 1940's. Deters, 93, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Hartford, SD, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community. Joe M. Deters was born, April 8, 1913 in Farmer, South Dakota. He grew up in farmer where he received his education. He moved to Hartford, SD in the early 1940's. He was employed as general farm labor until his marriage to Ada M. Storm on January 31, 1948. Following their marriage, Joe began employment with International Harvester Company as a warehouseman. He worked for International Harvester until the company closed in 1972. He later worked for Sioux Steel Company and Lindsey Water Softeners. Joe drove school bus for the West Central School District until retiring in 1983. He was fire chief in Hartford for several years, and was also sexton of St. George Catholic Cemetery in Hartford. Joe loved people, and particularly enjoyed visiting with them. He also loved his family, being especially fond of his grandchildren. For hobbies, Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always looked forward to the opening day of pheasant season. Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Sheryl Larson of Sioux Falls, SD, Geri Mitchell, of Milbank, SD, Susan Deters of Hartford, SD, and Anthony Deters of Pierre, SD; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada in May of 1996, a daughter, JoAnn Deters, 3 brothers; George, Alvin, and Ed, and 7 sisters, Agnes, Hilda, Rosemary, Leona, Regina, Francis, and Marie. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Monday at St. George Catholic Church, Hartford, SD. Interment will be in St. George Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 – 7:00 pm Sunday at St. George Catholic Church with a Wake Service beginning at 7:00 pm.
